Hello from us at Arukah!
As we just celebrated Thanksgiving and we are entering into the Christmas season. Here at Arukah we have much to be thankful for and to celebrate. 2018 has been a year of great success seeing our men everyday making positive steps of progression into a life of being self-sufficient, serving of community, and joy. I would not have thought 3 years ago when my wife and I were praying about starting Arukah that I would find such encouragement and joy in helping men move forward in life. It is a great honor to serve in this way and I wanted to thank you for your support!
I asked the Arukah guys what they were thankful for and here are some of their answers.
“I’m thankful for Arukah because since I’ve been with Arukah I’ve learned a lot about myself and how to have a relationship with God and others. I’m learning how to live life by faith not fear. I’m grateful for the Arukah house not giving up on me.”
“Being here is allowing me to see what God has blessed me to be.”
“I’m thankful for my mom, the 2 jobs I have now and I’m thankful for getting off the streets and being here at Arukah.”
“I am thankful for a roof over my head and a godly and loving environment that allows me to grow and come into what the Lord has for me in this season of my life.”
“I am thankful that Arukah gave me a new beginning and that I have God back in my life and feel blessed to know each and everyone connected with Arukah.”
Updates:
Service:
The Arukah men have been busy serving the community by helping single moms move, serving at the Missing Man Ministry and Mercy and Grace banquet dinners, and delivering donated furniture we receive to our Veterans, and families in need. Many of our men also serve their local church ministries.
Needs:
- Housing: We have two upcoming graduates that are in need of a room to rent. These are incredible men that I trust. Both are working fulltime, have done excellent at Arukah, and are now in the final steps of becoming self-sufficient. If you or someone you know have a room to rent please let me know josh@arukahweb.org
- Car Donation: Here at Arukah we help many of the men get their driver’s license. In order for them to get to work, meetings and church having a solid running vehicle is vital. The vehicles we receive help make a fresh start in their lives. Please contact me if you have a vehicle you would like to donate.
- Job Opportunities: Please let me know if you have any connections with job opportunities. Helping the men find work is vital in the process of helping the men move forward.
- Cooking Classes: Do you like to cook? I’ve got an opportunity for you to serve! Some of our men have a desire to learn to cook. We are looking for people who would like to share this skill with the men once a week.
Save the Date:
Our 2nd Annual Crab Benefit Dinner will be held on Sunday February 24th, 2019. Last year many of you enjoyed a Crab and Pasta dinner, inspirational speakers and were very generous. We sold out! Please put this date on your calendar and look for promotion and registration in January.
Amazon Smile:
If you are like me you use Amazon for most of your online shopping. Amazon has a great program called Amazon Smile which give 0.05% of purchase price to select non-profits. Arukah has been accepted to this program and your normal Amazon shopping can make a significant difference in providing for Arukah. To register your Amazon account for Amazon Smile for Arukah please (Click Here)
Corporation Matching:
In the last year Arukah has been receiving donations from companies such as the Lawrence Livermore Lab, that match employee contributions to Arukah. This is a great way to give generously to Arukah! Many companies offer this contribution but it takes an employee to start the process and nominate the non-profit to its employer. Please take the time to look into your company and see if they offer this benefit and consider Arukah.
Life change is never easy but here at Arukah we make it possible for men to change their lives in radical ways. I am so proud of these men! The dedication, hard work, and positivity that these men put in daily is inspiring. I look forward to seeing them continue to grow as they are with us and as they move on with their lives. Your support is greatly needed in this important work that we at Arukah are doing. Your support radically changes lives! We are in the process of wanting to open another home as our current home is full and a waiting list of men who would like to move forward in life. The only way to do this is if we have the right staff, home, and funding. As you think about your end of the year giving I would like you to consider giving to Arukah. Helping us change the life of one man at a time.
My prayer and hope is that God will bless you during this holiday season and the upcoming 2019 year.
Sincerely,
Josh Jonas
Arukah President
